HOT OFF THE PRESS

Huntington North will have a new face on the sidelines in 2019 with the resignation of Rick Burnau after four seasons with a 9-32 mark, including a 4-6 finish this past fall.

LaPorte’s David Sharpe resigned after four years with 26-17 record, including a 4-7 mark this season.

South Bend Washington is on the lookout for a new boss with Jay Johnson stepping down after compiling a 24-50 record over seven seasons, including a 3-7 record in 2018.

Ron Colby, the father of former Kokomo coach Brett Colby, and grandfather of Maconaquah coach Austin Colby, passed away on November 18 at the age of 77 years old. Colby served as an assistant for 28 years under his son at his various stops and recently assisted his grandson at Maconquah.

Decatur Central ended defending Class 5A state champion Columbus East’s 10-game post-season and 11-game regular season winning streak with a 27-24 triumph. It was the Hawks’ first semistate crown as well.

Evansville Central claimed its first semistate title with 30-14 decision over Marion in the Class 4A southern semistate.

Western Boone ended defending Class 2A state champion Southridge’s run with a 48-7 triumph in the Class 2A southern semistate,

A goal line stand in the final minute helped No. 1 Warren Central hang on for a 27-20 win over No. 7 Center Grove in the Class 6A southern semistate.

Zane Shilts’ 28-yard field goal as time expired lifted No. 5 Eastbrook to a 34-33 win over No. 11 Bremen in the Class 2A northern semistate.

New Palestine junior running back Charlie Spegal established a new state record for touchdowns in a season with his three scores in Saturday’s 35-10 win over Michigan City in the Class 5A northern semistate. He now has 68 touchdowns for the seasons, breaking the previous mark of 66 established by Sheridan’s Brett Law in 1988 and now just needs three scores to tie the national record.
