TROJANS FALL AT MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – A sluggish start proved too much to overcome for the Taylor volleyball team on Saturday as the Trojans fell at Mount Vernon Nazarene in Crossroads League action.

Taylor (12-6, 5-4 CL) struggled to find a rhythm in the opening set as MVNU tallied a 25-15 victory while limiting the Taylor offense to a .022 hitting percentage. The Cougars (13-8, 3-4 CL) maintained the momentum in set two on the way to a 25-17 victory before closing out the Trojans 27-25 in the third set.

The TU offense tallied just 29 kills while committing 24 hitting errors in 129 attacks for a .039 hitting percentage in the loss. MVNU tallied 44 kills and 19 errors in 133 attacks for a .188 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Callie Drage led the Taylor attack with eight kills while the junior Addy Bailey and senior Becca Gerig chipped in seven kills apiece. Junior Haley Harrell dished out 19 assists for the Trojans while sophomore Samantha Korn tallied 20 digs with Harrell adding 12.

The loss was Taylor’s second in a row following Friday night’s four-set defeat at Goshen. The Trojans finished the first round of games against the nine teams in the Crossroads League with a 5-4 record.

TU will start the second round of Crossroads League action on Wednesday when the Trojans host Indiana Wesleyan at 7:00 pm. The game will also be Grant County Volleyball Night inside Odle Arena with any junior high or high school volleyball player receiving free admission into the game.
