Trojans Sweep Huntington on the Road

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – For the first time this season, the Trojans and Foresters met on the softball diamond. The Trojans continued their dominance in the Crossroads League by sweeping Huntington (11-23, 7-17 CL), 12-5 and 8-2.

Courtney Moriarty went yard twice against the home team in game one. Hannah Castor and Maddi Evans also had a home run in the first game. It was the first time this season that TU had four dingers in one game.

Moriarty led the team with five RBIs in the first of two contests.

The top of the sixth was a big offensive inning for TU. Taylor scored half of its runs in that inning alone.

Taylor scored 12 runs on 16 hits in the first game against Huntington.

Jessica Doctor picked up her ninth win of the season in game one against HU. Doctor gave up one run on four hits. She also finished with five strikeouts in four innings of work. Darby Shaw came in relief for the final three innings. Shaw pitched three strikeouts for the Trojans and earned the save for TU.

Lauren Kanai (11-2) was the winner pitcher for the Trojans in the closing game of the doubleheader. She put in 6.1 innings of work, pitched six strikeouts and gave up two runs on six hits.

Not only did Kanai perform well in the circle for the Trojans, she was perfect in the batter’s box, going 3-3, which included one home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Kanai’s homer made it the third-consecutive game that the Trojans had at least one home run.

The Trojans’ offense scored their eight runs on 15 hits.

RV Taylor (26-10, 18-6 CL) will be on the road on April 16 to take on Grace (9-27, 5-19 CL). Game one will begin at 4:00 pm. The Trojans will be back at home against Huntington on April 19.
