EVANSTON, Ill. — Dan and Susan Jones Family Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald announced the addition of two student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent to join the Northwestern Football program Wednesday as a part of National Signing Day.

Defensive back A.J. Hampton and Stovall join 18 Wildcats who signed during the inaugural early signing period on December 20.

“We are thrilled to welcome A.J. and Sam to our football family,” Fitzgerald said. “The early signing period gave us an opportunity to assess our program further and address areas of need. A.J. and Sam are tremendous young men who fit the culture of our program and our university, both on and off the field.”

Northwestern welcomed five early enrollees at the beginning of the winter quarter, including running back Isaiah Bowser, linebacker Khalid Jones, defensive end Andrew Leota, safety Jeremiah McDonald and cornerback Greg Newsome II. The Class of 2022 includes seven players from Illinois, three from Texas and one each from Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee. The group, which includes 12 on offense and eight on defense, is headlined by four-star prospects Jones, Wyatt Blake, Devin O’Rourke and Jason Whittaker.

The Wildcats capped off the 2017 campaign with eight consecutive wins, including a 24-23 victory over Kentucky in the 20th Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl to finish 10-3 overall.
