LAKELAND, Fla.— The Southeastern women’s tennis team fell to St. Thomas 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Sharienne Ricardo and Angelique Myrtil pushed the Bobcats’ No. 1 pairing to a tiebreak, but Victoria Slavina and Mariah Bastos eventually bested SEU’s top duo 9-8 (7-4). St. Thomas also took points in the two other doubles matches to lead 3-0 going into singles competition.
In singles play, Ricardo was able to knock off Slavina 7-6 (7-4) in the first set. However, Slavina recovered to win the second frame 6-3 and edged the Fire’s No. 1 singles player 10-8 in the deciding set. STU clinched the 9-0 sweep by winning all six of the individual matchups.
With the defeat on Saturday, the Fire have now lost their last two contests, dropping to 2-6 (2-4 TSC) on the year.
Women’s tennis will look to get back on track when they face Aquinas College on Monday. The match is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. at Edgewood Tennis Center.
