Fire place two on first-team, three on second
LAKELAND, Fla.—All five Southeastern starters were selected to the women’s basketball All-Sun Conference Teams, as announced at the annual conference tournament banquet, hosted by Southeastern.
Leading the way was senior Ana Richter, named The Sun Conference Player of the Year after leading the nation in scoring, and ranking second in field goal percentage. The eight-time conference and two-time national player of the week posted six double-doubles this season.
Richter becomes the third consecutive SEU player named conference player of the year. Additionally, the Oxford, Ohio native was named First-Team All-Sun Conference.
Jaycee Coe also earned First-Team honors, ranking seventh in The Sun Conference in scoring at 15.7 points per game, and was fourth in field goal percentage at 46.5%. Coe was the TSC leader in 3-pointers made with 89, which was 13 more than second place.
Three Southeastern players – Emma Karamovic, Halee Printz, and Marlena Schmidt – were named to the Second Team.
Head coach Tim Hays was named Coach of the Year after leading Southeastern, the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, to a third consecutive Sun Conference regular season championship. Hays led the Fire to a perfect regular season for the second straight year with a 27-0 overall record and an 18-0 conference record in 2017-18.
Off the court, Richter and her sister Sarah Beth were named to the Academic All-Sun Conference list. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have two semesters complete at their institution with a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
The Fire take on Johnson & Wales in The Sun Conference Tournament semifinals Friday at 5 p.m.
