Purdue Northwest Volleyball Defeats Northwood, 3-1, for Program’s First GLIAC Victory

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest volleyball team earned its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win in program history Saturday afternoon, defeating Northwood University, 3-1.

Senior Gabrielle Martin (DeMotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) led the way with 13 kills and 13 digs with a .273 attack percentage to go along with four assists.

Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) tallied 12 kills with a .276 attack percentage and a trio of service aces, while Brooke Ahrens (Covington, Ind./Covington) notched 35 assists to lead the Pride.

Northwood earned the victory in the opening set, 25-20, but the Black and Gold answered right back in the second set, mirroring the Timberwolves to even the match, 1-1, after winning 25-20.

The Pride gained momentum in the third set, jumping out to a 12-8 lead after a kill from Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County), before winning the third set, 25-18, thanks to a service ace by Eudora Negri (Munster, Ind./Munster) followed by back-to-back kills by Auburn Dodd (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks).

PNW never looked back, taking an early 15-8 advantage in the fourth set en route to capturing the set, 25-12, to secure the historic program win.

The Pride return to action Tuesday, Sept. 19, when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., for a GLIAC contest with Davenport University (Mich.) at 6 pm (CT).
