AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Friday, recognizing the top performers from the week of March 19 through 25. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Burleton, Marian
Burleton tossed eight shutout innings in Marian’s 1-0 win over RV Taylor, allowing only four hits and striking out six batters.
Baseball Player of the Week
Donovan Clark, Huntington
Clark had two hits in each of Huntington’s three games, hitting .600 with six runs, one double, three RBI and three steals to help the Foresters to a trio of victories.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Breena Smith, Marian
Smith picked up two more wins, going the distance in both outings for No. 2 Marian without allowing an earned run. Smith fanned 19 batters in wins over Grace and Saint Francis.
Softball Player of the Week
Jennifer Kurelic, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Kurelic turned in four multi-hit games for MVNU, leading the Cougars to sweeps of Spring Arbor and Grace by hitting .733 with four runs, three doubles and three runs batted in.
Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Anthony Howard, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Howard helped MVNU to a 7-2 win over Bethany with wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Maria Lueken, Marian
Lueken won at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles to help Marian secure a 7-2 win over Saint Francis (IL).
Men’s Golfer of the Week
Alec Dutkowski, Taylor
Dutkowski finished third-of-88 golfers to help No. 13 Taylor take second place at the Purgatory Invite. Dutkowski carded a 73 and 67 to lead the Trojans.
Women’s Golfer of the Week
Nicole Jung, Taylor
Jung lifted No. 17 Taylor to the team title at the Purgatory Invite by finishing first-of-45 golfers with a 79 and 75 over the two-round event.
Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Isaac Stuckey, Grace
Stuckey set a new Grace record and won the hammer throw at the IWU Polar Bear Invite. Stuckey’s toss of 57.13 meters was an NAIA A standard and was the second-best mark in the NAIA this season.
Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Austin Hickerson, Spring Arbor
Hickerson won the 400-meter dash at IWU’s Polar Bear Invite with a time of 49.82 and added an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Bethany Kuenzer, Spring Arbor
Kuenzer won the pole vault at the IWU Polar Bear Invite with a mark of 3.65 meters to hit an NAIA A mark with the NAIA’s best height of the season.
Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Bryanna Bolha, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Bolha won the steeplechase for MVNU at the Muskingum Invite, finishing at 8:05.45 to finish first-of-four competitors.
