Adkins Blasts Two Homers as TU Takes Series at MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Jared Adkins homered to open Tuesday’s series finale at Mount Vernon Nazarene and Taylor never looked back, scoring six times in the first and taking a 14-4 win at MVNU to claim the season series with the Cougars.
TU took control with the six-run first and added eight more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to end the contest early by pushing the margin to 10 runs after eight frames. The Trojans finished with 14 runs on 14 hits for their 15th-showing with at least 10 runs this season.
Adkins set the tone with the leadoff home run, added another later in the game and finished 3-5 with two dingers, a walk and three runs batted in. Austin Mettica also left the yard and ended with two hits, a walk, a home run, three runs scored and two RBI. Andrew Kennedy doubled twice, while Sam Wiese and Nathan Targgart also collected two hits and Wyatt Whitman walked four times, score three times, knocked in two runs and collected a stolen base.
Jordan Crabb breezed through six innings to pick up his third win of the season on the bump for Taylor. The senior allowed six hits and two walks, while striking out three and limiting MVNU (21-14, 6-5 CL) to a single run. Crabb was followed to the mound by Mitch Ubelhor, Logan Rodgers and Colin Eggleson, as the trio teamed to record the final six outs.
Taylor (19-13, 8-3 CL) is set to open a three-game series against Indiana Wesleyan (18-19, 4-7 CL) on Thursday under the lights at Winterholter, with first pitch set for 6:00 pm.
