SOUTH BEND, Ind. – IU South Bend and IUSB Director of Athletics Steve Bruce announced on Wednesday the promotion of Alison Derdzinski to Head Coach of the Titans’ volleyball program.
Derdzinski has served as assistant coach for the Titans since the inception of the women’s volleyball program in 2011, where she has helped lead the Titans to three CCAC Tournament final appearances, and three NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship berths. During her time at IUSB, the program has seen six NAIA All-Americans, a CCAC Setter of the Year, and CCAC Player of the Year.
“Alison has been a steady, positive influence on our program since its inception,” said Bruce. “We are excited for her to be able to lead the program and to hold strong the IU South Bend volleyball tradition of excellence.”
A 2010 graduate of IU South Bend, Derdzinski was a member of the Titans’ club volleyball team in 2010-11, before the program debuted at the varsity level in 2011.
“My heart is in this program,” said Derdzinski. “I’m extremely excited to continue watching these young women grow on and off the court.”
A South Bend native, Derdzinski is a 2004 graduate of Riley High School. Following high school, she graduated from IU South Bend with a degree in Business with a focus in Human Resource Management.
The Titans are coming off one of their most successful seasons in history, tying the program record with 22 victories, finishing runner up in both the CCAC regular season and postseason tournament. IUSB earned their third NAIA Tournament appearance.
