Chargers Collect Post-Season Awards

When your team has a season as successful as the Ancilla Chargers you expect a lot of awards to roll in. Ancilla finished the men’s basketball season with a 29-3 record and the championship of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Division and of the entire MCCAA Conference as they also defeated the east winner, Henry Ford.  The Charger’s season ended in the finals of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 12, District 9 finals losing to Grand Rapids by an 85-72 count.

Coach Aaron Butcher, who is in his 6th year at the college, was named MCCAA Coach of the Year and MCCAA Western Conference Coach of the Year.

South Bend sophomore Jair Rodgers was the big awards winner. He was named to the all-Region 12 first team, All-MCCAA first team, all-Western Conference first team, and the Western Conference Player of the Year.

The all-Western Conference second team included: sophomore DK Fox (Elkhart) and freshmen Teyon Scanlan (Indianapolis) and Tyler Chisom (Chicago).  Those on the honorable mention list for the Western side of the conference were Erick Shepherd (Indianapolis) and Ty’Sean Sheppard (South Bend).

Ancilla’s freshmen were honored several times and that speaks well for the prospect of next year. Chisom and Sheppard were also named to the Western Conference all-defensive team. Three Charger freshmen, Sheppard, Chisom, and Scanlan, were named to the five player all-freshman team on the West side.

Scanlan and Chisom were named to the District 9 all-tournament team also.
