Battle Creek, MI — Ancilla College will send two golfers to the NJCAA Men’s National Golf Championship being hosted at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth this year.
Jalen Satterfield shot a two-day total of 160 which was 16 over par, but good enough to qualify him as an individual for the tournament. Satterfield shot an 81 on a less than desirable first day and a 79 on an almost perfect second day at the NJCAA Region 12 Division II Tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Course. Bedford Valley is a par 72, 6556-yard course.
Carl Martinez will also be returning home to the nationals, but he had to do a little extra work to get there. Martinez post a two-day total of 23 over par 167. An 86 on the first day put added pressure on him, but he shot a 9 over 81 on day two to tie for the final individual qualifying spot for nationals. He won a one-hole playoff to advance.
“It has been a tough spring with only three golfers, but to get two of them to nationals shows that the hard work paid off,” said 1st year coach Joe Steenbeke. “Both of these guys have shown steady improvement all season and I am proud of the way they have stepped up and qualified for nationals. Next week will be fun playing on our home course.”
The NJCAA Division II Golf National championship gets underway May 21-24 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, IN. This will be the fourth time Ancilla College and Swan Lake has hosted the tournament.
