Ancilla Sends Two Teams to Regional Basketball Finals
Port Huron, MI – Most college students do not head for northern Michigan for spring break. The two Ancilla College basketball teams did and each will be playing for a regional championship and an invitation to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Basketball Championship on Saturday.
It will be the first regional championship game for the Lady Chargers (24-5) who are having their best season in history under 4th-year head coach Tom Robbins. They will meet Lake Michigan College (22-8) in the finals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Red Hawks beat Ancilla at the end of January 72-68 and the Lady Chargers beat LMC 59-54 at the end of February with both teams winning on their home court.
The #2 Chargers (29-2) are also having their best season ever and 6th year head coach Aaron Butcher is hoping to make it a step farther then they did last year. A win against Grand Rapids (23-8) on Saturday at 1 p.m. would give the Chargers their 30th win of the year and send them to the national tournament. The two teams split home games this year, but what many of the Chargers remember is how the Raiders beat them in the championship game last year.
