Becker, McCarty,  Santiago, Fern, Spangler selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mahopac (N.Y.) freshman Shannon Becker, Alexandria (Ind.)-Monroe senior Mackenzie McCarty, North Johnston (Kenly, N.C.) senior Jada Santiago, Fleming County (Flemingsburg, Ky.) senior Morgan Fern and Coronado senior (Henderson, Nev.) Tatum Spangler were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played the week of April 9-15.

East Region
Becker was 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA and 53 strikeouts in Mahopac’s first three contests of the season. She scattered seven hits, walked four and allowed two unearned runs in 21 innings of work. Becker opened the 2018 campaign with a one-hit, 16-strikeout performance (zero walks) in a 1-0 win over Panas. She improved on her strikeout total in each of her next two starts. In back-to-back contests against Ketcham, she fanned 18 and walked three in a 2-0 loss then rebounded with a four-hit shutout. Becker struck out 19 and issued one walk in the 1-0 win.

North Region
Over four games, McCarty powered Alexandria-Monroe to an undefeated week. She launched five home runs, drove in 14, scored 12 times and slugged a monstrous 2.875. McCarty hit .875 and drew nine walks for a .941 on-base percentage. She did a lot of her damage in the first game of the week against Eastern, clubbing three home runs with seven RBI and four runs scored. She added another long ball, three RBI and four more runs in a 15-13 triumph against Anderson. In her final two games of the week, McCarty had one official at-bat in each game as she was walked six times. She scored three runs and doubled against Liberty Christian and capped her tremendous week off with her final homer and three RBI versus Madison-Grant.

South Region
Santiago reached base safely in all 12 plate appearances, including going 10-for-10 with two doubles, two triples, a home run, 11 RBI, nine runs scored and a 1.900 slugging percentage. Her biggest outing of the week came in game two against Beddingfield as Santiago went 3-for-3 with a double, five RBI and three runs scored. She homered and drove in two in game one versus the Bruins. Santiago was a long ball short of the cycle with three RBI and two runs scored against Norther. She contributed a triple and three more runs during a victory over Northwood.

South Central Region
Fern hit .917 (11-for-12) with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and six runs scored. She recorded a .923 on-base percentage and slugged 1.916. Fern registered at least three hits, including four twice, four RBI and two runs in each contest. She went 4-for-4 with two homers in a 6-2 win over Scott. Fern added two doubles, a long ball versus Wayne and doubled in a 3-for-3 outing against Spring Valley.

West Region
Spangler recorded five multi-hit and five multi-RBI contests, helping Coronado to an undefeated 5-0 week. Over five games, she was 13-for-15 (.867) with five doubles, two triples, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. Spangler scored three times in four games and registered at least one extra base hit in each outing. She drove in three, scored three times and triple versus Canyon Springs. Spangler doubled twice as she was 3-for-3 with two RBI versus Las Vegas. She also scored three runs against Liberty and Valley.
