Berger and Patberg Named 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior guard Ali Patberg and junior guard Grace Berger have been selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District team on Thursday. This is the third time in four years the Hoosiers have landed two student-athletes on the All-District 5 team.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women’s Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late May. Indiana is one of two Big Ten team to place two student-athletes on all-district teams and one of five teams with multiple selections.

Patberg is a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree as she has earned a spot for the third-consecutive season. A graduate of IU’s Kelley School of Business in May 2020 with a degree in finance, the Columbus, Ind. native is working on her master’s degree in recreational administration and holds a 4.00 GPA. She is a three time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was a 2020-21 All-Big Ten second team honoree. Patberg averaged 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, a +2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio while shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. She scored in double figures 20 times and scored 20 points or more in five games. The senior guard became IU’s 28th member of the 1,000-point club this season and currently ranks 15th all-time in scoring a third in all-time assists and was a Top 10 finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award for the second-straight season.

Berger, a native of Louisville, Ky., holds a 3.86 GPA in sports marketing and management and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She led the nation in triple-doubles this season with three while averaging 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and a +2.3 assist-to-turnover ratio to lead IU to an Elite Eight appearance this season. The WBCA and USWBA All-American honorable mention shot 44.1 percent from the floor and 74.4 percent from the free throw line while playing 34 minutes per game. In addition, Berger scored in double figures 23 times and had seven games where she scored 20 points or more as she earned All-Big Ten first team honors and was a Cheryl Miller Award top 10 watchlist candidate.
