WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES 2021 CLASS
MISHAWAKA – Bethel Women’s Basketball Head Coach Doug Porter is pleased to announce the signings of 14 student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2021 class. The first team class consists of Addi Jones, Caroline Morris, Kara Sandy, Maiah Shelton, Paige Walton, and Abigail Williams.
“We’re delighted to add these members to our 2021 recruiting class,” stated Porter. “One of our priorities was to add both height and quality depth to our roster, and this group certainly fits the bill with multi-dimensional players who can fill a variety of roles. In getting to know each of them, I’ve been especially impressed by their work ethic, Christian character, and passion to excel. We believe this class is going to play a big role in returning Bethel to competitiveness in the Crossroads League!”
Addi Jones hails from New Palestine, Indiana and prepped at New Palestine High School She is a 5-6 guard who averaged 8.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. Jones was named First Team All-Hancock County and First Team All-Hoosier Heritage Conference.
Caroline Morris hails from Mishawaka and prepped at Penn High School. Morris is a 5-10 forward and will have four years of eligibility remaining after transferring in from Indiana Tech. She averaged 11.4 points and 3.0 steals per game at Penn and helped the Kingsmen to an IHSAA Semistate appearance in 2020.
Kara Sandy hails from Bud, West Virginia and prepped at Wyoming East High School. Sandy is a 6-0 guard and will have two years of eligibility remaining after transferring in from Bluefield State. She averaged 18 points and 4 rebounds per game as a senior in high school. She was named Second Team All-State as a senior and was the West Virginia AA State Champion MVP as a sophomore. Sandy averaged 9 points and 2 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Bluefield State and led them in scoring as a freshman with 10.2 per contest.
Maiah Shelton hails from Markle, Indiana and prepped at Norwell High School. Shelton is a 5-9 forward who averaged 14.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She was named the Northeast 8 Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors, scoring over 1,000 points for her prep career. She was nmaed IBCA Large School All-State this season.
Paige Walton hails from Nottawa, Michigan and prepped at Centreville High School. She is a 6-4 center who averaged 11 points and 10 rebounds per game. She was named to the Southwest 10 Second Team All-Conference as a senior.
Abigail Williams hails from Farmington Hills, Michigan and was homeschooled. She is a 6-1 forward who played for Michigan Mystics. As a junior, Williams averaged 15.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.1 blocks per game and shot 67-percent from the field. She was the Great Lakes Homeschool Basketball Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State, the Midwest Regional Offensive Player of the Year, and the Midwest Regional Post Player of the Year.
The reserves team class consists of Lydia Andrews, Alantiaza Biggers, Jerilyn Blackmon, Maddie Burchett, Makayla Darden, Izabel Galindo, Shalyn Rathbun, and Camiya Robinson.
“We are really excited to be adding some quality depth to the program in welcoming these players to our Reserve Team,” continued Porter. “They are a great group of young ladies and I know they will provide energy and enthusiasm to Pilot Basketball. Coach Hatfield and I are eager to see how each of them will respond when given opportunity to develop their skills and gain playing time during their first season of college competition!”
Lydia Andrews hails from Albion, Indiana and prepped at Central Noble High School She is a 5-7 guard who averaged 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Alantiaza Biggers hails from Michigan City, Indiana and prepped at LaPorte High School. She is a 5-7 guard and averaged 12.9 points and 3.8 assists per game.
Jerilyn Blackmon hails from Joliet, Illinois and prepped at Wheaton Academy. She is a 5-4 guard who averaged 9.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Maddie Burchett hails from New Castle, Indiana and prepped at Tri High School. She is a 5-4 guard who averaged 12.8 points and 5.2 assists per game.
Makayla Darden is a 5-6 guard who hails from Beaumont, Texas and prepped at West Brook High School.
Izabel Galindo hails from Michigan City, Indiana and prepped at Marquette Catholic High School. She is a 5-9 guard who averaged 6.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Shalyn Rathbun hails from Fishers, Indiana and prepped at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She is a 5-7 forward who averaged 2.0 rebounds per game.
Camiya Robinson hails from South Bend and prepped at Washington High School she is a 5-5 guard who averaged 2.5 points and 1.2 steals per game.
