• The Big Ten finished 6-2 overall in the Round of 64, tying for the second-most wins the conference has ever had in the opening round of the tournament. The Big Ten’s six wins trail only the seven wins that the conference compiled in 2019 and are tied with its win totals in 2013 and 1994 (according to @BTNStatsGuys).
• Three Big Ten teams seeded No. 9 or lower won first-round games (Maryland, Rutgers and Wisconsin). The three wins by teams seeded No. 9 or lower tie for the most in the first round in Big Ten history (according to @BTNStatsGuys).
• No. 10 Rutgers defeated No. 7 Clemson to earn its first NCAA Tournament victory since 1983.
• With a win over No. 8 Loyola Chicago on Sunday, No. 1 Illinois will advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005. In 2005, the Fighting Illini went on to play in the national championship game.
