Brown Steps Down as Head Softball Coach

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Kyle Gould, announced on Friday that Jessica Brown had resigned as TU’s head softball coach.

“In her time with us, Jessica Brown proved to be a great coach, a valued member of our Athletic Department and most importantly, a trusted mentor to the young women in our softball program,” said Gould. “Even in pursuing the call she and her family felt for this next opportunity, she modeled how to do that well and we are forever thankful for the time she spent with us at Taylor. While she will be missed greatly, we wish her and her family nothing but the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”

Brown led the Taylor softball program to a 27-32 record during a rebuilding season in 2023. Brown guided the young Trojan squad to the Crossroads League Tournament Championship Game and to the program’s fifth appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.

Brown announced her resignation after her husband, Michael Brown, stepped down from his post as Associate Athletic Director for Operations at Purdue Fort Wayne to accept an Athletic Director position at another university.

“My family and I are forever grateful for our time with Taylor University,” said Brown. “The young women that I was able to coach will forever hold a special place in my heart. I know the Lord is going to do amazing things through each of them, and I will be in their corner for life, cheering them on.”

Brown added, “Thank you to Kyle Gould and Natalie Young for their amazing leadership within the Athletic Department. TU Athletics is first class and strives to reflect the Gospel in all areas. It is an amazing time to be a Trojan and I cannot wait to follow along and watch each program continue to excel competitively as well as academically.”

TU will play the upcoming 2024 season under interim head coach Doug Gower, who served as an assistant coach with the Trojans in 2023. Gower offers ample head coaching experience, having previously led the program at Huntington University for 17 years.

Taylor will begin a national search for its next head softball coach at the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.
