Butcher Named MCCAA Coach-of-the-Year

Ancilla College’s head men’s basketball coach Aaron Butcher was named Michigan Community College Athletic Association Coach-of-the- Year. Butcher coached his team to a 17-1 MCCAA record and to victory in the MCCAA Conference Championship, a 98-90 win over Henry Ford Community College on Saturday.

The Chargers are 28-2 overall, the most wins in program history, and slated as the top seed in the NJCAA Region 12, District 9 playoffs that begins Thursday for Ancilla as they will meet the winner of Tuesday’s game between Muskegon and Lansing.

“The MCCAA is full of good coaches, so to be named Coach-of-the-Year is a great honor,” Butcher said.  “Any coach of the year award is a reflection of the players and the staff. I am blessed to coach a great group of guys. Without them doing what they’ve done this year this award wouldn’t have been made possible”

This is Butcher’s sixth season at Ancilla. Last year, he took his team to the championship game of the region tournament. Hopefully history repeats itself.
