Cailliau’s OT Goal Pushes Pride Past Panthers Friday Afternoon
HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest men’s soccer team earned its fourth-straight home victory Friday afternoon, defeating Davenport University, 4-3 in overtime.
The Black and Gold jumped on the board first, after a goal by Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township) followed by another goal from Matt Bahena (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower) gave the Pride an early 2-0 advantage.
Davenport would record its first goal of the match shortly after Bahena’s, but the Pride still led, 2-1.
Senior Jonny Harkin (Birmingham, England/College of St. Scholastica) extended the Pride’s lead after Harkin found the back of the net in the 51st minute of play to put PNW ahead 3-1.
Davenport would answer back and eventually notch a pair of goals in the final 30 minutes of play to send the match to overtime.
Shortly after the opening overtime whistle, Jules Cailliau (Koksijde, Belgium/Atheneum Veurne) connected on his first career goal for the Pride to secure the 4-3 victory.
The Pride will host Ashland University in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm (CST) at Dowling Park.
There will be free admission for all Purdue Northwest students, faculty and staff along with free Dominos Pizza. The first 100 fans will also receive a free item card from Chick-fil-A.
