Castor Honored as CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Hannah Castor of the Taylor University softball team was named CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American in the College Division, as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Castor owns a 3.65 grade-point average in biology at Taylor and was the only sophomore to earn Academic All-American honors in the College Division. The North Vernon, Indiana native started in 53 of TU’s 57 games this season, splitting time between designated player and right field for the Trojans and led Taylor’s offense with 52 RBI. Castor was second on the team with 67 hits and 16 doubles, while batting .368, hitting four home runs and posting a .957 fielding percentage to earn a spot on the All-Crossroads League Team.

Castor is now the fourth TU softball player and the first sophomore in team history to receive Academic All-American recognition, while becoming the sixth Trojan to claim the accolade during the 2016-2017 school year.

Taylor now boasts 60 Academic All-Americans in school history, with 28 student-athletes earning First-Team Academic All-American status.
