The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Marquette Catholic basketball players, junior Claire Salyer and sophomore Ally McConnell. In Saturday’s Class 1A state championship game held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Salyer, who averaged 2.7 points per game, scored nine points, including a pair of 3-point baskets, to lift the top-ranked Blazers to a 38-31 win over No. 2 Vincennes Rivet. With junior standouts Sophia and Emma Nolan both battling foul trouble throughout the contest, McConnell, despite being scoreless, contributed five key rebounds, helping Marquette Catholic (27-2) claim its first state title in girls’ basketball.
Special recognition also goes out to the South Bend Riley and LaVille High boys’ basketball teams for finishing undefeated in the regular season for the first time in program history. The No. 2 (Class 4A) Wildcats posted a 22-0 record, while the No. 3 (Class 2A) Lancers had a 23-0 mark.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
