The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Merrillville senior wrestler Drew Bailey and Plymouth senior basketball player Halee Reichard.
In Saturday’s Hobart wrestling regional, Bailey claimed the 220-pound title with a 4-3 victory over A.J. Fowler of Calumet. This helped the Pirates capture the team title for the first time since 2014 with 239 points. This snapped Portage’s run of four straight championships, which finished second with 206 points.
In Friday’s 57-54 double-overtime victory over host Northridge in the opening round of the Class 4A girls’ basketball sectional, the 5-foot-5 guard drained the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining and finished with seven points. Then, in Saturday’s 37-36 semifinal round victory against Concord, Reichard had a game-high 12 points to help the Pilgrims (19-5) advance to Monday’s championship game against defending champion Elkhart Central (18-6).
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
