The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Andrean junior basketball player Julia Schutz and Northridge junior swimmer Elsa Fretz.
In last Saturday’s Class 2A Whiting sectional championship game, the 6-foot guard recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points and hauling down 11 rebounds as the 59ers ended Hammond Noll’s six-year sectional championship streak with a 63-58 victory. The win avenged two consecutive years that they had been knocked out of the tournament by the Warriors. Andrean (15-12) takes on Bremen (18-7) at 10 a.m. CST in the opening game of this Saturday’s Class 2A Winamac Regional.
In last Saturday’s Elkhart Sectional held at the Elkhart Health and Aquatic Center, the talented Fretz helped the Raiders to the team title with 538 points by capturing the 50 freestyle in a record time of 23.42 and the 100 butterfly (55.48). She was also part of the victorious 200 freestyle relay (1:35.64) and 400 freestyle relay (3:30.34) teams.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
