The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is the Chesterton gymnastics team. In Saturday’s IHSAA state finals held at the Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University, the Trojans capped off an unbelievable season with the second highest score in state meet history with a total of 114.4 points. They put three members on the all-around podium led by repeat all-around title recipient Sophia Hunzelman. Joining her on the podium were Jordan Bush and Mia Pak. Defending champion Valparaiso finished second with 113.05 points, which is the fourth highest score ever with Portage placing sixth with a score of 108.425. The sophomore Hunzelman’s total score of 38.425 on the all-around made her only the second gymnast to win the all-around in her first two years, joining Valparaiso’s Angie Cook, who accomplished this feat in 1993 and 1994.  Valparaiso’s Whitney McKeon tied for first in the bean with Hunzelman with a score of 97.1.

The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
