The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Bremen senior softball player Kaelyn Shively and Valparaiso junior golfer Mark Civanich.
Last Saturday, Shively helped the top-ranked Lions earn their second straight trip to the Class 2A state softball title game by allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over seven innings in an 8-2 win over Boone Grove in the championship game of the Class 2A LaVille semistate at Newton Park. She also helped her own cause with two hits and two RBIs, including a home run. Earlier in the day, Shively (22-0) scattered two hits with four strikeouts and a walk over six innings in a 9-0 blanking of Oak Hill in the semifinal round. She also drove in three runs and belted another home run. Bremen (28-2) takes on Tecumseh (26-3) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. EDT at Purdue University.
This past Friday, Civanich shot a four-under par score of 66 to help the Vikings claim the Valparaiso sectional team title with a score of 302. During his excellent round, he recorded four birdies and an eagle. Civanich and Valparaiso will compete in Thursday’s Lake Central regional match.
Special recognition also goes out to fellow Bremen junior softball player Erin Coffel, who was recently named the 2019 Indiana Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, and to the Valparaiso unified track and field team for winning the IHSAA state championship last Saturday at Indiana University in Bloomington.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
