The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Boone Grove senior pitcher Ty Bothwell and Andrean junior pitcher Mike Doolin.
In Saturday’s Class 2A state baseball championship game at Victory Field in Indianapolis, the left-handed Bothwell went 2-for-4 with an RBI and also picked up the victory as the Wolves (22-5) hung on for a 5-4 decision over Southridge to earn their first state title in any sport. The Indiana University recruit improved his record to 10-2 by throwing 6 2/3 innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits with 12 strikeouts and five walks.
In Saturday’s Class 3A state baseball championship game at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Doolin (11-1) set a title game record with 13 strikeouts as the top-ranked 59ers (31-6) claimed their sixth crown with a 6-1 win over No. 3 Silver Creek. The Vanderbilt University recruit surrendered one run on three hits with one walk over seven innings and also helped his cause by going 2-of-4 at the plate. During its tournament run, Andrean outscored its opponents, 63-9.
Special recognition also goes out to Chesterton senior golfer Mitchell Davis and the Penn boys’ golf team. At the IHSAA state golf finals held at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Davis finished tied for sixth place with a score of 147, while the Kingsmen placed fifth with final tally of 601.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
