The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are South Bend Saint Joseph’s baseball players Michael Dunkelberger and Patrick Farrisee.
In the No. 9 Indians’ 4-0 blanking of No. 2 Jasper in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday at Victory Field in Indianapolis, the junior left-hander Dunkelberger tossed a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts and two walks. He allowed just one hit over the final four innings to help Saint Joe (25-4) to its first state title in baseball in its first appearance.
The sophomore left-fielder Farrisee provided all the offense the Indians needed with a two-run single in the second inning. He finished 1-of-1 with two RBIs and a walk.
A special recognition also goes out to Penn senior baseball player Trevor Waite, who was the recipient of the Class 4A L.V. Phillips Mental Attitude Award. Waite was 1-of-4 at the plate with a run scored in Penn’s 4-3 loss to Indianapolis Cathedral in eight innings in the Class 4A finale.
The Centier Bank Performers of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
