The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Washington Township sophomore baseball players James Hernandez and Steven Hernandez and Bremen senior softball player Rylee Hershberger.
In Saturday’s Class 1A Plymouth baseball semistate, James Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs scores and the go-ahead two-run double in the No. 4 Senators’ 13-8 win over No. 2 Rossville. Steven Hernandez earned the victory in relief to help Washington Township (23-6) takes on University (21-10-1) for the Class 1A state title on June 17 at 4:30 p.m. CDT at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
Hershberger’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning on Saturday paved the way for the Lions (29-2) to capture the Class 2A state softball title with a 2-1 win over Tecumseh at Purdue University. It was the first crown in softball for Bremen, which finished state runner-up in 2018 and 2008.
Special recognition also goes out to fellow Bremen senior softball player Kaelyn Shively, who was named the winner of the Class 2A mental attitude award. Shively was the winning pitcher in Bremen’s 2-1 win over Tecumseh in the Class 2A state championship game and finished with a 23-0 record on the mound.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
