The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Merrillville junior basketball player Keon Thompson Jr. and Mishawaka Marian senior basketball player Jerry Bracey.
In Friday’s Class 4A East Chicago Central boys’ sectional semifinals, the 6-foot-3 guard came up with 19 points as the Pirates upset No. 4 Munster, 63-53. Then in Saturday’s championship game, he tallied 22 points to help Merrillville claim its first sectional crown since 2017 with a 45-42 win over Lake Central. The Pirates (12-12) take on Valparariso (17-8) this coming Saturday in the second game of the Class 4A Michigan City Regional.
The 6-foot-2 guard helped the No. 4 Knights capture their first sectional title since 2016 on Saturday by scoring 16 points in a 46-23 victory against Jimtown in the title game of the Class 3A Jimtown Sectional. In Friday’s semifinal round, he netted 27 points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists in a 68-66 overtime decision over No. 5 South Bend Saint Joseph. Bracey also tallied 19 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in Tuesday’s 55-47 triumph over South Bend Washington. Marian (21-4) battles Hanover Central (24-2) this coming Saturday in the opening contest of the Class 3A South Bend Washington Regional.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
