Chargers Fall on the Road for First Conference Loss

Grand Rapids, MI –  #1 Ancilla College built a 10 point second half advantage but missed key free throws that allowed Grand Rapids to come back and beat the Chargers 94-92 in a Michigan Community College Athletic Association contest. Ancilla falls to 24-2, 14-1 in the MCCAA West. This was Ancilla’s first loss to a Division II team this year.

Grand Rapids built a 54-49 halftime advantage by hitting eight 3-point baskets and shooting 50% from the field. Curtis Davison hit for 38 points for Grand Rapids and Zachery Pangborn added 31.  The two combined to make 14 three point baskets.

The Charger’s Tyler Chisom drove the length of the court with six and a half second left but his running layup did not find the net as time ran out. Tyler Chisom led the Chargers with 24 points, with Jair Rodgers adding 21, DK Fox 19 and Teyon Scanlan 12.

Rodgers reached the 1,000 point plateau with his 21 points.  He had 979 coming into tonight’s game.

Ancilla will be playing five games in 11 days as they finish out their season. The Chargers return home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game against Lansing Community College.  Monday they travel to Glen Oaks for a 7:30 p.m. game and Wednesday they conclude their regular season by hosting Lake Michigan at 7:30 p.m. in the LifePlex in Plymouth.  March 3rd they will host the MCCAA East Division winner in a conference showdown for number one. That game will be at 3 p.m.  The following week they head to the Region 12 tournament as the top seed.
