Coe Leads Purdue Northwest Men in 95-52 Loss to Ashland on Senior Day
HAMMOND, Ind. – Senior Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) finished with 17 points to lead the Purdue Northwest men’s basketball team, but Ashland University (Ohio) came away with the 95-52 victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action Saturday afternoon on John Friend Court at the Fitness & Recreation Center.  Prior to the game, Coe, senior Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) and senior Caleb Brannon (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) were recognized in a special ceremony in honor of “Senior Day.”

Johnson recorded 10 points and team-best eight rebounds for the Pride, while junior Chris Nunn (Anderson, Ind./Liberty Christian) also chipped in 10 points.  Brannon added five points and two assists in his final home game in a PNW uniform.

Coe hit a trio of three-pointers in the opening minutes of play to give Purdue Northwest an early 9-3 lead.  The Eagles fought back and tied the game at 15-15 with 11:22 left to play in the half.  A fast-break lay-up by freshman Richard Robertson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) near the midpoint of the period put PNW up 20-17.  However, Ashland responded with 11 unanswered points to go ahead, 28-20.

The Eagles finished the half strong scoring the final 16 points of the period to take a 44-23 lead into the break.  Unfortunately for the Pride, things did not improve in the second half as PNW could not get closer than 17 points the rest of the way.  Ashland shot 60 percent (34-for-57) from the field for the game to fuel the victory, including 50 percent (14-for-28) from beyond the arc.

Purdue Northwest (2-24 overall/2-16 GLIAC) heads to Big Rapids, Mich., on Thursday, February 22, for a conference road game against Ferris State University.  The game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. CT start at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.
