Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of October 16 through 22. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Chris Maxon, Indiana Wesleyan
Maxon led No. 19 IWU to a first-place team finish at the Great Lakes Invite, setting a new personal-best and finishing sixth-of-285 with a time of 25:37 to help the Wildcats top a field that included three top-15 programs.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Sarah Harden, Taylor
Harden crossed fourth-of-253 at the Great Lakes Invite, highlighting No. 7 Taylor’s second-fastest program time and leading the Trojans to a team victory in a field that boasted six teams in the poll, including No. 1 Aquinas.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Johan Escalante, Goshen
Escalante allowed just 1 goal and picked up 11 saves in 200 minutes of work in the goal for Goshen, helping the Maple Leafs draw with Taylor and post a 1-0 shutout win against MVNU.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bruno Jaeger, Bethel
Jaeger racked up three goals and one assist for RV Bethel, helping the Pilots to wins over Saint Francis and Huntington. Jaeger scored the game-winning goals in each contest for BC.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Amanda Annee, Marian
Annee anchored No. 15 Marian’s defensive unit in a pair of Crossroads League wins, as the Knights topped RV Indiana Wesleyan by a 2-0 margin and handled USF by a 4-1 count.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Courtney Denney, Marian
Denney recorded a hat trick and closed the week with four goals and eight total points in two Marian victories. Denney added an insurance goal in No. 15 MU’s 2-0 win over RV Indiana Wesleyan and netted three goals in a 4-1 win over USF.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Morgan Miller, Indiana Wesleyan
Miller reached double-digit kill totals in all three of RV Indiana Wesleyan’s matches, hitting .298 and averaging 3.1 kills per set. Miller was also a force on defense, averaging 0.9 blocks per set for the Wildcats.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Sara Miller, Grace
Miller averaged 8.0 digs per set in a pair of three-set matches against No. 25 Marian and RV Indiana Wesleyan. Miller scooped up 22 digs without a receiving error in GC’s upset sweep of MU and added 26 digs without an error in a loss to IWU.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Annica Stotz, Spring Arbor
Stotz turned in the best match of her career to lead Spring Arbor to a five-set win over Bethel. The junior setter set career-bests with 50 assists and seven aces, while adding nine digs and two kills for the Cougars.
