Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week
AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of October 9 through 15. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
De-Andre Steward, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Steward finished 46th-of-329 competitors at the Wilmington Classic, helping Mount Vernon Nazarene take ninth-of-30 teams with an individual time of 27:19.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
MaKenzie McKirgan, Mount Vernon Nazarene
McKirgan led Mount Vernon Nazarene to a sixth-place finish out of 32 teams at Wilmington, crossing in 29th-of-300 runners with a time of 19:48. The junior has led MVNU in each of the team’s last three races.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kurt Hamlin, Grace
Hamlin helped Grace score a pair of wins to move into first place as the last unbeaten team in Crossroads League play. Hamlin registered 11 saves combined in Grace’s wins over IWU and USF.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Stuart Aeschliman, Goshen
Aeschliman led Goshen to a 2-1 upset over No. 18 Spring Arbor with an assist and a goal in the win. The freshman forward also had an assist on GC’s game-tying score in its 2-1 win over Marian.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Seabeck, Indiana Wesleyan
Seabeck was perfect in the net for RV Indiana Wesleyan in its lone outing of the week, posting six saves for her sixth shutout of the season via the 3-0 win over Grace.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Courtney Denney, Marian
Denney lifted No. 15 Marian to a 3-1 win over RV Taylor on Saturday with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the comeback win. Denney and the Knights also tied Goshen to extend an unbeaten streak to 11-straight matches.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Kristen Osborn, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Osborne ripped off 22 and 23 kills in MVNU’s pair of matches, averaging 5.0 kills per set on a blistering .337 hitting percentage. Osborne also added 3.0 digs per set, recorded double-doubles in each match and added a trio of service aces.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Kate Cobb, Huntington
Cobb was busy for Huntington, racking up 149 digs over five matches and setting a new career-high with 44 digs in a five-set loss to IU-Kokomo. Cobb averaged 6.5 digs per set and had at least 18 digs in all five contests, with 27-or-more in four matches.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Alexa Hill, Grace
Hill had three matches with at least 40 assists and closed Grace’s five-match week with 191 helpers and 46 digs. Hill highlighted the week with a 45-assist, 21-dig double-double in GC’s win over Taylor and added 47 assists and nine digs against No. 18 Cornerstone.
