Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of October 23 through 29. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Paul Marandet, Spring Arbor
Marandet went for 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals in RV Spring Arbor’s 87-81 upset of No. 1 Cornerstone, added a 17-point, 10-assist double-double in SAU’s rout of Aquinas and averaged 18.3 points, 4.0 boards, 7.7 assists, 1.0 blocks and 2.0 steals, while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor in three Cougar victories.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Bradbury, Taylor
Bradbury opened the 2017-2018 season with a 30-point, 18-rebound performance to lift RV Taylor to a 79-71 road win at Northwestern Ohio. Bradbury also dished out four assists and collected two steals in the game, while hitting a trio of three-point shots.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Kurt Hamlin, Grace
Hamlin racked up 12 saves over a pair of Grace victories, leading the Lancers to a second-place finish within the Crossroads League standings. Hamlin highlighted the week with an eight-save shutout in GC’s 1-0 win over RV Goshen.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Janum Sailor, Spring Arbor
Sailor paced the No. 21 Spring Arbor attack with one goal and two assists in a pair of wins over Bethel and Marian. Sailor assisted two goals in SAU’s CL Championship-clinching win over the Pilots and found the back of the net in a 3-0 win against MU.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Catherine Schmidt, Marian
Schmidt helped No. 15 Marian score a 1-1 draw with No. 2 Spring Arbor by piling up 10 saves over 110 minutes of work in the net against the powerful SAU attack. Schmidt added two saves in a shutout of Huntington and helped MU close the season without a loss in league play.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bethany Balcer, Spring Arbor
Balcer found the net four times and assisted another goal to play a role in five goals over 55 minutes of work in No. 2 Spring Arbor’s 8-0 victory against Bethel.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Cassidy Rammel, Saint Francis
Rammel filled the box scores in USF’s three league wins, averaging 3.7 kills, 1.9 digs, 0.7 blocks and 0.2 aces per set, while hitting .266 for the Cougars. Rammel’s best showing came in a four-set win over Goshen with 18 kills, seven digs and one ace for the Cougars.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Valorie Flick, Saint Francis
Flick had at least 19 digs in all three Saint Francis victories, averaging 6.3 digs per set for USF. Flick ended the week with 63 digs, eight assists and three aces, logging 22 digs in wins over Goshen and Bethel.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Maria Pelak, Saint Francis
Pelak took over the Crossroads League lead in total assists and assists per set in league play by tossing up a trio of 40-assist showings in USF’s three league wins. Pelak had 53 assists and 14 digs in a four-set win over Goshen and averaged 13.3 assists and 2.8 assists per set on the week.
