Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 

INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top student-athletes from the week of May 1 through May 7. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Burleton, Marian

Burleton went the distance in a 2-1 Marian win over Indiana Wesleyan during the Crossroads League Tournament, fanning 14 batters while walking one and allowing four hits over the nine dominant innings.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Jared Adkins, Taylor

Adkins collected six extra-base hits in four games, hitting .500 with a 1.313 slugging and a 1.949 OPS. Adkins hit for the cycle, scored eight times, drove in five and stole three bags to go with a double, three triples and two dingers.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Hannah England, Grace
England pitched Grace to a 5-1 win in the Crossroads League Tournament, tossing a complete game gem in the circle without allowing an earned run and scattering five hits.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Kristen Exposito, Indiana Wesleyan

Exposito belted three home runs and had eight RBI in six at bats over two wins for RV Indiana Wesleyan, clubbing a pair of homers and driving in six during IWU’s defeat of RV Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament.

 

Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Marissa Singer, Saint Francis

Singer won the 2017 Crossroads League Women’s Golf Individual Championship by eight shots and was voted as the CL’s Player of the Year after shooting rounds of 74, 75 and 80 to secure a trip to the NAIA National Championships.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Marissa Klein, Indiana Wesleyan

Klein helped No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan take a 5-4 win against No. 5 Northwestern Ohio by winning her match at No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-4 margin.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Brennan Coil, Indiana Wesleyan

Coil won the Crossroads League Championship and hit the NAIA A standard in the shot put and also claimed All-Crossroads League honors with a third-place finish in the discus.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Moussa Conde, Marian

Conde highlighted Marian’s championship performance at the league meet by taking first in the 200-meter dash, as well as the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays, while ending second in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter dash.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh, Taylor

Sakeuh hit the NAIA A standard and won the Crossroads League Championship with a mark of 5.73 meters in the long jump. Sakeuh’s leap was nearly half a meter better than the second-best performance.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Lateefah Birks, Marian

Birks scored wins in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 4×100-meter relay, in addition to a second-place showing in the 4×400-meter relay to help the Knights claim the 2017 Crossroads League Championship.
