Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 2-8

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of April 2 through April 8. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Patton, Taylor

Patton fanned 13 batters without issuing a walk over nine innings of a two-hit shutout victory in TU’s 4-0 win against Bethel. Patton was perfect into the fifth and carried a one-hitter through 8.2 innings, before finishing the game on 104 pitches and without allowing a runner to reach second.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Nathan Targgart, Taylor

Targgart led Taylor to a 3-0 mark by collecting nine hits in 12 at bats and closing the week with four runs, six RBI and two doubles to complement a .750/.714/.917/1.631 slash line. Targgart had at least two hits and one run in all three games for the Trojans.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Danielle Munn, Indiana Wesleyan

Munn piled up 15 strikeouts in 10 dominant innings in the circle for No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan, winning both starts without allowing an earned run. Munn issued just one walk and held the opposition to seven hits for a 0.80 WHIP over the two outings for IWU.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Kristen Exposito, Indiana Wesleyan

Exposito collected five hits in 10 at bats and cracked three home runs to lead No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan to a 4-0 week. Exposito also walked five times, scored four runs, drove in eight and posted an eye-popping 1.400 slugging percentage.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Jacob Macri, Bethel

Macri scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles to highlight Bethel’s 8-1 victory over Manchester in his lone outing of the week.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Lizzie Bauss, Indiana Wesleyan

Bauss led No. 9 IWU to a 5-4 win over No. 18 Campbellsville by winning her matches at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles and also scored a win at No. 1 doubles against IU Southeast.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Erik Escobedo, Bethel

Escobedo turned in a record-setting effort in the hammer throw at the Embry Riddle Classic, topping the 30-athlete field in the event with a toss of 65.66 meters to set a new BC record and qualify for the NAIA National Championships.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Caleb Anthony, Taylor

Anthony secured wins in the 110-meter hurdles as well as the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays to lead Taylor to a team victory at its own George Glass Invitational.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Brianna Jordahl, Taylor

Jordahl won the hammer, shot put and discus to pace Taylor’s team win at the George Glass Invitational, breaking the TU record in the discus and hitting an NAIA B standard in the hammer.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Tamia Mills, Marian

Mills scored wins in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4×100-meter relay, while ending third in the 400-meter hurdles for Marian at the Knight Open. Mills’ time of 15.01 in the 100-meter hurdles broke MU’s program record and qualified the sophomore for NAIA Nationals.
