Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 30 – May 6

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of April 30 through May 6. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jon Young, Indiana Wesleyan

Young carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in RV Indiana Wesleyan’s 4-2 win over Spring Arbor in a Crossroads League Tournament elimination game. Young earned the win and finished with 12 strikeouts and three hits allowed in seven strong innings.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Nathan Targgart, Taylor

Targgart keyed a red-hot Taylor offense in a 4-0 week for the Trojans that included a pair of wins to open the Crossroads League Tournament. Targgart batted .471 with eight runs, one double, four home runs and 16 runs batted in during the four victories.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Danielle Munn, Indiana Wesleyan

Munn helped No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan rally for the 2018 Crossroads League Tournament Championship by notching a pair of wins in the circle over No. 2 Marian on Saturday. Munn ended the week at 3-1 with a 0.89 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Kristen Exposito, Indiana Wesleyan
Exposito powered the tenth-ranked Wildcats to the 2018 Crossroads League Tournament Championship by hitting .389 with four runs, one double, three homers and 11 RBI in IWU’s 5-1 week. Exposito capped the week by driving in the winning run against No. 2 Marian to clinch the championship in the 1-0 thriller.

 

Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Marissa Singer, Saint Francis

Singer won a second-straight Crossroads League Championship by shooting a 228 over 54 holes at Glendarin Hills Golf Club. Singer opened with a 73 for the best round of the entire tournament and won the title by one stroke.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Brennan Coil, Indiana Wesleyan

Coil hit a pair of NAIA A standards while winning the Crossroads League Championship in the shot put and discus events for Indiana Wesleyan. Coil also scored with a seventh-place showing in the hammer.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Carl Jones Jr., Mount Vernon Nazarene

Jones Jr. crossed the line first in the 100 and 200-meter dashes to claim Crossroads League Championships in each event for MVNU and also helped the Cougars take second in the 4×100-meter relay with an NAIA A standard time.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Katrina Tovar, Spring Arbor

Tovar scored in three events for Spring Arbor at the league championship meet, winning the triple jump with a meet record mark of 11.8 meters. Tovar also took second in the pole vault and fifth in the long jump.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Rachel Blagg, Taylor

Blagg recorded Crossroads League Championship-winning performances in the 1,500 and 800-meter runs, as well as the 4×800-meter relay to help No. 18 Taylor run away with the team championship. Blagg’s 4×800-meter relay team also set new meet and Taylor records.
