Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | April 9-15

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of April 9 through April 15. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Mason Shinabery, Huntington

Shinabery fired a one-hit shutout and piled up 10 strikeouts in Huntington’s 5-0 win against Saint Francis. The senior walked just one batter and recorded the win.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Wyatt Whitman, Taylor

Whitman homered in three-straight games and finished the week with a .385/.471/1.231/1.702 slash line with two doubles, three homers, eight runs, eight RBI, three walks and one steal to pace the Trojan lineup.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Meghan Fretz, Huntington

Fretz shutout No. 2 Marian in Huntington’s 8-0 upset of the Knights and finished the week with two wins and one earned run yielded over 15.0 innings for a 0.47 earned-run average in three outings for the Foresters.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Kristen Exposito, Indiana Wesleyan

Exposito stayed locked in with a .550 average and 1.250 slugging percentage in No. 11 IWU’s six games. The senior belted four homers, two doubles and collected 11 runs batted in, while walking twice and scoring five times.

 

Men’s Golf Player of the Week
Alec Dutkowski, Taylor

Dutkowski scored his seventh collegiate victory while leading No. 12 TU to a team title at the Pilot Invite. Dutkowski won the event by four strokes with scores of 73 and 70, while also carding a 73-75 to end in 14thplace at the Redhawk Invite earlier in the week.

 

Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Maddie Thomas, Taylor

Thomas turned in a pair of top-10 performances for No. 16 Taylor, taking eighth at the Redhawk Invite with a two-round total of 153, before winning the Pilot Invite with a 36-hole score of 155 to help TU take the team crown.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Nick Romano, Spring Arbor

Romano went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for Spring Arbor in matches against Taylor and Adrian. Romano won both of his matches in each outing to improve his overall season win total to 27.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Marissa Klein, Indiana Wesleyan

Klein won at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles against No. 8 Northwestern Ohio and also won at No. 2 singles and doubles in No. 9 IWU’s 7-1 win over Davenport.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jonathan DeHaan, Taylor

DeHaan won the pole vault at the Ball State Challenge, clearing 4.95 meters to set a new Taylor record and register the best mark in the event at the NAIA level this season.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Carl Jones Jr., Mount Vernon Nazarene

Jones set new MVNU records in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 10.78 and 21.53, while also hitting a B standard in the 200 and securing top-five showings in both races, as well as the 4×100-meter relay.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Danielle Wojciechowski, Bethel

Wojciechowski tied for the top mark in the pole vault at the Ball State Challenge, reaching 3.79 meters to hit the A standard once again.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Alex Berends, Taylor

Berends won the steeplechase at the Ball State Challenge with the third-best time of any NAIA competitor this season. Berends clocked a time of 10:59.57 to hit the A standard.
