Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 12-18

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of February 12 through 18. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Patton, Taylor
Patton notched a win in TU’s 11-1 victory over 2017 NAIA Opening Round qualifier, Saint Ambrose, with seven strikeouts over five brisk frames. Patton needed just 51 pitches, allowed only two hits without a walk and did not yield an earned run.
Baseball Player of the Week
Brett Lawson, Taylor
Lawson batted .500 in TU’s games against No. 19 IU Southeast and Saint Ambrose, scoring two runs, homering once and driving in four. Lawson’s three-run blast broke open the game in the fifth inning of TU’s win over SAU.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Gage Ott, Bethel
Ott led No. 16 Bethel to wins over No. 3 Saint Francis and RV Marian with 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per victory. Ott shot 63.6 percent from the field, 93.8 percent from the free throw line and highlighted the week with 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting in BC’s upset of USF.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Bradbury, Taylor
Bradbury averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the No. 16 Trojans in wins over RV Huntington and Grace. Bradbury had at least 23 points, six boards and three helpers in each game and broke TU’s single-season records for points and field goals in the win at Grace.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Dori Knight, Grace
Knight went 2-0 in the circle for the Lancers in her first two collegiate outings. The freshman posted a 0.81 earned-run average and fanned seven hitters over 8.2 innings of work in the two outings.
Softball Player of the Week
Sam Heim, Grace
Heim collected five hits in nine at bats during Grace’s sweep of Bethel (TN) to open the season. Heim added four runs, four stolen bases, one double and one run batted in to go with a .667 slugging percentage and the .556 average.

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel
Downs highlighted BC’s NCCAA Indoor National Championship with a win in the long jump and second-place showings in the 4×200-meter relay and pole vault.
Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Carl Jones Jr., Mount Vernon Nazarene
Jones notched wins for Mount Vernon Nazarene in the 60 and 200, posting a time of 7.00 to top 30 individuals in the 60-meter dash and a mark of 22.87 to lead all 48 athletes in the 200-meter dash.
Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh, Taylor
Sakeuh posted a pair of NAIA A standard marks, winning the long jump with a leap of 5.75 meters and adding a third-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01.
Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Alex Berends, Taylor
Berends won the 3,000-meter run by over 30 seconds with a time of 10:20.41 for an NAIA A standard performance. The time ranked Berends ninth among all NAIA competitors and tops in the Crossroads League in the event this season.
