Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 19-25

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of February 19 through 25. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Jon Young, Indiana Wesleyan

Young allowed just two hits without a walk and piled up 12 strikeouts over eight scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound for IWU in a 2-0 victory against Bethel (TN).

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Vincent Herschberger, Spring Arbor

Herschberger went five-of-10 with four walks in SAU’s four-game series split at Cornerstone, hitting .500 with a .900 slugging percentage. The freshman scored four times, doubled, homered and knocked in five runs during the series.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Evan Maxwell, Indiana Wesleyan

Maxwell guided No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of victories in the league tournament by averaging 18.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in IWU’s wins over Taylor and Huntington. Maxwell posted double-doubles in each game, highlighted by 22 points, 12 boards and two blocks in the Wildcats win over TU.

 

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Bradbury, Taylor

Bradbury averaged 32.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 53.5 percent from the field in No. 18 Taylor’s league tourney wins over MVNU and No. 15 IWU. Bradbury became TU’s fastest player to 2,000 points with a 39-point outburst at IWU and had at least 26 points and 10 boards in each victory.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Mckenzey Ridge, Indiana Wesleyan

Ridge held Brescia to one run on two hits over a complete game in the circle for No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan. The freshman picked up seven strikeouts and issued just two walks to record the victory.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Katherine Boyer, Goshen

Boyer led Goshen to a 4-1 week by hitting .471 with three doubles, one homer and five runs batted in. The infielder also hit safely in all five games, scored three times, stole one base and posted a slugging percentage of .824.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Gavin White, Indiana Wesleyan

White highlighted RV Indiana Wesleyan’s 8-1 win over RV Cornerstone with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles as the Wildcats improved to 17-0.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Alex Mella, Indiana Wesleyan

Mella scored a pair of wins at the top of No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan’s lineup in an 8-1 win over Saint Francis (IL). The junior won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
