Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 5-12

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top performers from the week of February 5 through 12. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Patton, Taylor

Patton held No. 20 Campbellsville to two runs on six hits over seven innings, picking up the win on the bump in TU’s 7-3 victory. Patton fanned five without issuing a walk and extended a season-opening streak of 15-straight scoreless frames, before allowing two runs in the seventh.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Austin Mettica, Taylor

Mettica helped Taylor secure a 7-3 win at No. 20 Campbellsville in a doubleheader split with the Tigers. Mettica collected two hits, one run and one RBI in the win and batted .375 in the twinbill.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Mike Bush, Huntington

Bush guided the Foresters to an upset win over No. 3 Saint Francis and turned in a pair of double-double showings with at least 20 points and 12 assists in each contests for HU. Bush averaged 21.0 points, 13.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals, while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from beyond the arc.

 

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Nicole Ignasiak, Indiana Wesleyan

Ignasiak led No. 20 IWU past No. 16 Taylor and No. 25 Saint Francis with 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per win, while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. The junior forward highlighted the week with a 22-point, eight-board, four-block showing against TU.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel

Downs turned in personal-best marks to win the pole vault and long jump events for Bethel at the first-ever Crossroads League Indoor Track and Field Championships.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Austin Hickerson, Spring Arbor

Hickerson claimed league titles in the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and the 4×400-meter relay for Spring Arbor at the first-ever Crossroads League Indoor Track and Field Championships.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh, Taylor

Sakeuh won the Crossroads League Championship and hit NAIA A standards in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles, while also claiming All-Crossroads League honors in the 200-meter dash and 60-meter dash to pile up 36 points for first-place TU.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Sarah Harden, Taylor

Harden scored wins in the mile, 3,000-meter and distance medley relay to push Taylor to the 2018 CL Indoor Championship. The freshman hit NAIA B standards in each of her individual events.
