Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 14-20

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of January 14 through 20. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Evan Maxwell, Indiana Wesleyan

Maxwell matched a career-high with 39 points, hit the game-winning triple and eclipsed 1,000 points in the No. 3 Wildcats’ 89-86 win over No. 13 Marian, while averaging 31.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a pair of Indiana Wesleyan victories.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Dejah Cyrus, Marian

Cyrus did it all for the No. 8 Knights in wins over Huntington and No. 16 IWU, netting 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per outing. Cyrus led MU’s comeback at IWU with 20 points and eight rebounds to maintain the top spot in the CL standings.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Brennan Coil, Indiana Wesleyan

Coil turned in the top performance in the shot put this season among all NAIA competitors with a mark of 16.76 meters to win the event at the IWU Invite and hit the NAIA ‘A’ standard.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel

Downs won the 60 and 200-meter dashes at the IWU Invite on Friday, hitting the NAIA ‘A’ standard in the 200 with a time of 22.13 to qualify for NAIA Nationals in his fourth event of the season.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Katrina Tovar, Spring Arbor

Tovar had a big day on Friday hitting a pair of NAIA standards, posting a first-place finish and setting a new SAU program record. Tovar won the pole vault with an NAIA ‘A’ standard height of 3.64 meters and posted a ‘B’ mark and the SAU record with a triple jump of 11.12 meters.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Siana Emery, Goshen

Emery finished the 3,000-meter walk in first-place with an NAIA ‘A’ standard time of 16:11 to punch her ticket to the NAIA National Championships.
