Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 23-29

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from January 23 through 29. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Lilli Frasure, Indiana Wesleyan

Frasure led No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan to wins over Huntington and Grace with 21.5 points, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per victory. The sophomore guard shot 60.7 percent from the floor and highlighted the week with a 25-point gem against HU.

 

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Elijah Malone, Grace
Malone averaged 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 72.7 percent from the floor in wins for No. 7 Grace over No. 16 Marian and No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan. The junior center had a double-double at MU, before erupting for 29 points on 12-of-15 shooting at IWU.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Ahna VanderWall, Taylor

VanderWall set a new Taylor record and won the 5,000-meters at the Trojan Invite with a time of 17:26.08. That mark converts to 17:18, giving VanderWall the third-best 5,000-meter time in the NAIA during the 2022-2023 indoor season.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Patience Sakeuh, Taylor

Sakeuh won two events and hit a pair of NAIA A-standards at the Trojan Invite. The junior registered the fourth-best long jump distance in the NAIA this season at 5.72 meters, while also repeating her A-standard in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Sammy Sommers, Taylor

Sommers took first place in all three of his events at the Trojan Invite, scoring wins in the 60-meters and 4×400-meter relay, as well as in the long jump. Sommers hit the A-standard in the long jump with a score of 7.28 meters.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Liam Hesting, Taylor

Hesting won both of his events at the Trojan Invite, topping the field in the weight throw and shot put at his home meet. The senior once again hit the A-standard with a mark of 17.18 meters in the weight throw and added a heave of 14.52 meters in the shot put.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Haley Tucker, Huntington

Tucker topped a field of 56 individuals at the third Crossroads League Meet of the season, turning in a four-game total score of 765. Tucker averaged 191.25 pins per game during the tournament.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Dylan Mollo, Marian

Mollo led Marian to a team win at the third Crossroads League Meet of the year. Mollo was named to the event’s all-tourney team.
