Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 28 – February 3
AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of January 28 through February 3. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Demarkus Stuckey, Goshen
Stuckey buried the game-winning shot in Goshen’s 66-65 upset of No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan, finishing the contest with 36 points and five assists. Stuckey averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in two games for the Leafs and made 11-of-18 triples.
Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Taylor Gregory, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Gregory averaged 24.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals in two games for MVNU, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from deep. Gregory posted double-doubles in each game, with at least 21 points and 14 rebounds in both contests.
Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel
Downs turned in another dominant showing, this time winning the pole vault and long jump competitions at the IWU Invite, with a pair of NAIA A standard performances. Downs currently owns the top mark in the NAIA in each event this season.
Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Chad Ellens, Indiana Wesleyan
Ellens hit two NAIA A standards and won two events at the IWU Invite, topping 35 runners in the 600-meters with a time of 1:21.26 and teaming to win the 4×800-meter relay at 7:58.18.
Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Kyara Black, Spring Arbor
Black set a new Spring Arbor record and finished second at the Hillsdale Classic with a height of 5-07.75 feet in the high jump. The effort put Black No. 2 in the NAIA this season and was good for the NAIA A standard.
Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Rachel Blagg, Taylor
Blagg scored wins in the 1,000-meters and distance-medley relay at the IWU Invite, posting NAIA A times in each race. Blagg’s time of 3:00.41 in the 1,000-meters ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, with the DMR time of 12:30.83 being good for No. 3.
