Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 7-13

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of January 7 through 13. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jeff Beckman, Spring Arbor

Beckman paced the CL-leading No. 8 Cougars with 16.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 63.2 percent in wins over No. 5 MVNU and No. 16 Bethel. Beckman posted double-doubles in each victory.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Sarah Fryman, Huntington

Fryman averaged 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists to lead Huntington in wins over Goshen and No. 16 IWU. Fryman also shot 50.0 percent from the field, scored a career-best 30 against GC and netted 22 in a 67-59 upset of the Wildcats.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel

Downs turned in NAIA ‘A’ standard efforts while winning the pole vault and long jump at the Grand Valley State Invite with marks of 5.01 meters and 7.48 meters. Downs also hit the ‘B’ standard in the 60-meter dash.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Mychal Vinson, Marian

Vinson edged a field of 21 runners to claim the title in the 300-meter run with a time of 37.10 at the Wabash Open.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Raegene Thomas, Marian

Thomas racked up wins in the shot put and weight throw to pace the Marian field athletes at the Wabash Open. Thomas posted a toss of 12.27 meters in the shot and 13.34 in the weight throw.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Jada Burton, Marian

Burton won the 300-meter race in her first collegiate showing, clocking a time of 44.09 and also helped Marian claim the team title in the 4×200-meter relay at the Wabash Open.
