Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | March 25-31

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of March 25 through 31. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Conner Cantrell, Indiana Wesleyan

Cantrell went the distance for the Wildcats in a 9-1 win over MVNU. The junior fanned seven over seven innings, allowing five hits and two walks.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Chris Triplett, Spring Arbor

Triplett sparked SAU’s 3-0 week with five hits, three runs, one double and one homer for the Cougars. Triplett posted a slash line of .500/.615/.900 and hit safely in all three games.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Breena Smith, Marian

Smith kept rolling in the circle for No. 5 Marian, going 3-0 with a save in four appearances for the Knights. Smith allowed one run in 17 innings, striking out 19 and yielding only eight hits.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Miranda Wehrle, Indiana Wesleyan

Wehrle slugged four home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Bethel and closed the six-game week with a .500 average, eight runs, five home runs and 13 runs batted in for No. 11 IWU.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Nick Romano, Spring Arbor

Romano highlighted a pair of 9-0 wins for SAU, going 4-0 on top of the Cougar lineup with two wins at No. 1 singles and two at No. 1 doubles.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Layla Jojo, Bethel

Jojo scored a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins for Bethel at No. 4 singles and added a trio of victories at No. 2 doubles to close the week with a 5-0 individual mark.

 

Men’s Golfer of the Week
Alec Dutkowski, Taylor

Dutkowski carded a three-under 69 to take third-of-97 at the rain-shortened Purgatory Intercollegiate and help No. 18 Taylor win the event.

 

Women’s Golfer of the Week
Nicole Jung, Taylor

Jung repeated the weekly honor by shooting a Taylor 18-hole record score of 69 to finish second-of-52 and help No. 14 Taylor win the Purgatory Intercollegiate.

 

Men’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Sebastian Behme, Spring Arbor

Behme won the pole vault with a height of 4.26 meters at the Centre Invite.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Katrina Smith, Spring Arbor

Smith won the pole vault and triple jump, while taking third in the long jump for SAU at the Centre Invite. Smith set the SAU records in the pole vault and triple jump.

 

Women’s Outdoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Sarah Maschino, Spring Arbor

Maschino picked up wins in the 100-hurdles and 4×400-meter relay for Spring Arbor at the Centre Invite.
