Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | November 4-10

 

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from November 4 through 10. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Lyssi Snouffer, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Snouffer averaged 5.0 kills, 4.4 digs and 0.3 blocks per set for No. 16 Mount Vernon Nazarene in wins over Saint Francis and Spring Arbor. The senior hitter went for 28 kills and 21 digs in MVNU’s comeback five-set win over SAU in the CL Tourney Quarterfinals.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Marissa Mullins, Indiana Wesleyan

Mullins led No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan to a pair of sweeps, registering 10 total blocks in the two wins. In addition to posting 1.7 blocks per set, Mullins had 4.0 kills per set, tallying 24 total kills on a .585 hitting percentage.

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Abbigail Porter, Indiana Wesleyan

Porter tossed up 43 assists in her lone outing of the week, helping No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan to a sweep of Taylor in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. Along with her 43 assists, Porter had nine digs and four blocks.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Layla Brown, Marian
Brown was key in No. 9 Marian advancing past MVNU and No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan in the CL Tournament. The senior forward assisted two of MU’s three goals against Mount Vernon Nazarene, before scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 decision against IWU.

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Reagan Kohler, Spring Arbor
Kohler recorded a pair of shutouts in goal for No. 11 Spring Arbor to help the Cougars advance to the CL Tournament Championship match. Kohler posted five total saves in 182:23 of game action as SAU blanked Bethel and RV Grace.

 

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Josh Wesseling, Marian
Wesseling hit the game-winner in each of RV Marian’s CL Tournament wins over No. 13 Bethel and RV Huntington. Wesseling ended the week with two goals on four shots, sending the Knights into the CL Championship match.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Juan Torres, Marian
Torres led RV Marian past No. 13 Bethel and RV Huntington by his play in goal. The senior keeper posted five stops in a 3-2 upset of Bethel and then recorded a shutout with four saves against HU to send the Knights into the CL Championship match.

 

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jaynie Halterman, Taylor
Halterman turned in her best race yet, this time setting a new Taylor program and course record by nearly 20 seconds. Halterman cruised to the Crossroads League Championship and led No. 1 Taylor to its 12th-straight CL Championship with a time of 20:36.9.

 

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Eli Fullerton, Indiana Wesleyan
Fullerton raced to the Crossroads League Championship with a course-record time of 24:52.7. Fullerton’s efforts helped No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan secure a second-place finish in a tightly contested team race.

 

Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Alana Nelson, Spring Arbor
Nelson continued to overwhelm the opposition, scoring 28 points in a win over Alice Loyd and 40 in an 85-80 win against Midway. In addition to scoring 34.0 points per game in the two wins, Nelson shot 62.5 percent and grabbed 14.5 rebounds per outing.

 

Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Peyton Murphy, Grace
Murphy filled the stat sheet in two lopsided wins for Grace, averaging 21.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 3.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. Murphy had at least 10 defensive rebounds and two steals in each win, posting double-doubles in each.

 

Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Gabe Newhof, Spring Arbor
Newhof averaged 30.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in a pair of wins for RV Spring Arbor. In addition to those numbers, Newhof shot 74.2 percent from the field, making 23-of-31 attempts from the floor.

 

Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Ian Scott, Grace
Scott was active for No. 8 Grace in a pair of Top-25 showdowns. Scott averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per outing. In GC’s overtime win over No. 21 Madonna, Scott had 12 defensive boards, two blocks and two thefts.

 

Women’s Bowler of the Week
Skylar Thomas, Marian
Thomas took second place at the Raider Classic, pacing Marian to the team title by knocking down 1,049 total pins in five games.

 

Men’s Bowler of the Week
Nickolas Archacki, Marian
Archacki finished sixth-of-195 bowlers at the Raider Classic to lead Marian to its third team title of the season. Archacki tallied 1,120 pins in five games, averaging 224 per game.
