Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | Oct. 5-11

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of October 5 through 11. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Amanda Adams, Taylor
Adams crushed 22 kills in 48 swings and added 17 digs and one block in Taylor’s four-set win over Spring Arbor. The senior hit .333 in the match and averaged 5.5 kills per game for the Trojans.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Maddy Payne, Bethel
Payne continued her impressive freshman campaign by adding 16 blocks and 21 kills in a pair of matches. The middle hitter turned in a 12-kill, 11-block double-double in BU’s five-set loss to No. 7 IWU, before going for nine kills, five blocks and two aces in a sweep of Goshen.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Kacy Bragg, Taylor
Bragg tossed up 46 assists in Taylor’s 3-1 victory over Spring Arbor, averaging 11.5 assists per game in the victory. The sophomore added five kills, seven digs and one block in the winning performance.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Erin Oleksak, Marian
Oleksak did the heavy lifting for No. 2 Marian in its victory over No. 14 Grace, scoring twice and assisting another Knight score in the 5-0 win.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Samantha Tracey, Spring Arbor
Tracey posted back-to-back shutouts in goal for No. 24 Spring Arbor, picking up four saves in a 2-0 defeat of No. 14 Grace and adding another in SAU’s 4-0 shutout of Huntington.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Zack Hargreaves, Indiana Wesleyan
Hargreaves scored one goal in each of Indiana Wesleyan’s three matches, finishing the week with three goals, one assist and seven points. Hargraves helped IWU to ties with Grace and No. 12 Spring Arbor, along with a 3-1 win over Saint Francis.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Christopher Banfi, Spring Arbor
Banfi repeated as the CL Defensive Player of the Week, after allowing only one goal in 200 minutes of action and picking up five saves for No. 12 Spring Arbor. Banfi’s work helped SAU tie Indiana Wesleyan and score a 3-0 shutout of RV Huntington.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Emma Wilson, Huntington
Wilson turned in yet another record-setting effort to highlight No. 7 Huntington’s team win at the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede. Wilson topped the field of 217 runners by 75 seconds, crossing in 16:24 to set a new course and program record.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Adrien Gentie, Huntington
Gentie set a course record and won the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede with a time of 24:43 to help No. 6 Huntington take the team title out of 25 teams and 224 athletes at the race.
