Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | October 15-21

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of October 15 through 21. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Jesse Saxton, Indiana Wesleyan

Saxton finished second-of-234 runners with a time of 25:12 at the Great Lakes Invite to lead No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan to a second-place showing at the 19-team event.

Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Sarah Harden, Taylor

Harden clocked a time of 18:06 to finish third-of-238 and help No. 2 Taylor secure the team title with the second-fastest team mark in program history.

 

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Joshua Dunn, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Dunn picked up 18 saves in net for MVNU, helping the Cougars to a 3-0 win over Huntington and a 2-1 victory against Goshen.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Roderic Green, Spring Arbor

Green scored once in each of No. 14 Spring Arbor’s shutout wins, helping the Cougars clinch their second-straight regular season Crossroads League Championship.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Amanda Annee, Marian

Annee anchored a stout No. 17 Marian defense in its 2-0 shutout of No. 1 Spring Arbor and a 2-1 win over Bethel. In the upset of the top-ranked Cougars, Annee headed away a shot at the goal line to preserve the clean sheet for the Knights.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Noelle Jester, Marian

Jester scored the game-winning goal in No. 17 Marian’s 2-0 upset of No. 1 Spring Arbor and also assisted MU’s second goal of the match, ending the week with one goal and two helpers in a pair of Knight victories.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Kristen Osborn, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Osborn posted a .255 hitting percentage with two double-doubles and 3.4 kills per set to help MVNU to a 3-1 mark. The senior piled up 58 kills and 43 digs while slamming at least 11 kills in all four outings and surpassing 1,500 kills for her career.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Bridget Downs, Bethel

Downs highlighted Bethel’s five-set win over Spring Arbor by collecting a career-high 41 digs in the Pilots’ lone contest of the week.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Payton Anderson, Bethel

Anderson stuffed the stat sheet in a five-set win over SAU for Bethel, turning in 55 assists, seven digs, six kills and two blocks in the thrilling win, while also reaching 2,400 assists for her career.
